Police have arrested the owner of the bus involved in the Dhaleshwari Toll Plaza crash on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway, which resulted in six deaths after a private car and motorcycle were crushed.

The arrested was Dablu Bepari.

The Highway Police arrested him on Saturday night in Shibchar, Madaripur.

Nurul Amin, brother of deceased Amena Begum, filed a case with Dakshin Keraniganj police station on Saturday, naming the bus owner as one of the accused.

On Friday night, the bus driver Nurunnabi and another individual were arrested in Siddhirganj, Narayanganj, by RAB and Highway Police.

Highway Police Additional DIG Dr AKM Akhtaruzzaman Bosunia said that the bus was brought out of the garage the day before the accident without fitness certification. “Moreover, it was driven by a drug-addicted driver with an expired license.”

He said: “Arrested bus driver is being interrogated. Initial findings suggest that the vehicle was out of control, but further investigations are ongoing to identify additional causes.”

The reckless passenger bus from Bepari Paribahan rammed into a private car, motorcycle, and microbus stopped at the Dhaleshwari Toll Plaza on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway on Friday.

A child on the motorcycle died on the spot. Four others succumbed to their injuries on the way to Dhaka hospitals, and another died later at the hospital.

Shafiqul Islam, Deputy Assistant Director of the Munshiganj Fire Station, reported that the Bepari Paribahan bus struck a Mawa-bound private car from behind, crushing both the car and a motorcycle.
