Jamaat-e-Islami: No compromise with Awami League before trial

‘We achieved true independence on August 5, 2024’

Update : 17 Dec 2024, 05:26 PM

Jamaat-e-Islami's Nayeb-e-Ameer Professor Mujibur Rahman said no compromise should be made with the Awami League before the accused members are tried.

He made the comment at a roundtable organized by Nizam-e-Islam Party at the National Press Club on Tuesday.

"The Awami League is not just a party of thieves; they are robbers and murderers. They have looted resources through illegal occupation and smuggled them abroad. Therefore, no compromise should be made regarding them,” he said.

He added: "The independence of 1971 was an enslavement; we have to admit that. We achieved true independence on August 5, 2024."

BNP Chairperson's Advisory Council member Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal said at the event: "The Awami League has a history of changing its name and character. It started as the Awami Muslim League, later dropping 'Muslim' to become Awami League.

“Then, they transformed into Baksal, and again reverted to Awami League. A party that has changed its name four times since its inception will naturally change its character frequently. There can be no compromise with them,” he said.

The Jamaat-e-Islami's nayeb-e-ameer added that the Awami League must apologize to the people. “Until now, they have not once admitted their guilt or sought forgiveness from the nation.”
