New commuter train service launched on Dhaka-Gazipur route

Plans to launch commuter train services between Dhaka and Narsingdi, Dhaka and Narayanganj revealed

Four pairs of new commuter trains have been launched on the Dhaka-Joydebpur-Dhaka railway route, aiming to improve communication between the capital and Gazipur.

Transport Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan announced the development during the official inauguration of the trains at Joydebpur Railway Junction in Gazipur Sunday morning.

"On the eve of Victory Day, we’ve introduced this service to facilitate easier commutes for people travelling between Gazipur and Dhaka," he said. "This initiative ensures transportation for people of all social classes, allowing workers from Gazipur to reach Dhaka more conveniently. Similar services will soon be rolled out for Narsingdi-Dhaka and Narayanganj-Dhaka routes."

Earlier, on Thursday, Bangladesh Railway Public Relations Director Nahid Hasan Khan announced the launch of two pairs of commuter trains along the Dhaka-Gazipur route, further boosting connectivity between the two areas.

The new commuter trains are Turag Commuter-1, Turag Commuter-2, Turag Commuter-3, Turag Commuter-4, Joydebpur Commuter-1, Joydebpur Commuter-2, Joydebpur Commuter-3, and Joydebpur Commuter-4.

Turag Commuter departs at 5am, arrives Joydebpur by 6am, with stops at Airport and Tongi stations.

It leaves Joydebpur at 6:30am, reaching Dhaka at 7:40am, with stops at Tejgaon, Banani, Airport, Dhirashram, and Tongi stations.

An additional departure from Joydebpur at 9:45am reaches Dhaka at 11:15am.

Besides, Joydebpur Commuter departs Dhaka at 5:25am and arrives at Joydebpur by 6:25am, halting at Tejgaon, Airport, and Tongi stations.

It then departs Joydebpur at 7:10am, arriving at Dhaka by 8:25am, with stops at Tejgaon, Banani, Airport, and Tongi stations.

Another journey starts from Dhaka at 11am, would reach Joydebpur at 12pm with similar stops.

Finally, the train returns from Joydebpur at 12:30pm, arriving in Dhaka at 1:40pm.

Tickets for these commuter trains will be available only from designated stations to streamline the ticketing process.

The Turag commuter service will remain closed on Fridays, while the Joydebpur commuter will not run on Saturdays.

Passengers can travel from Gazipur to Kamalapur for a fare of just Tk20.

The new trains aim to make travel easier for daily commuters, including students and workers.
