The "Promotion Committee for Retired Officers Deprived of Promotion 2024," chaired by former finance secretary Zakir Ahmed Khan, submitted its recommendation to the chief adviser suggesting the promotion of 764 retired government officials to various ranks, including deputy secretary, joint secretary, additional secretary, and secretary.

The committee presented the report and its recommendations to the Chief Adviser Professor Mohammad Yunus, at the State Guest House Jamuna on Tuesday morning.

According to sources familiar with the process, the recommendations were based on a review of 1,540 applications from officials who claimed they had been denied promotions during the Awami League's tenure.

Sources further said the committee also recommended multiple promotions for retired government officials, from one-step promotions to four-step promotions.

Among the 1540 applicants 763 applications were not recommended for any promotion also.

The five-member committee was formed on September 16, 2024, with Zakir Ahmed Khan as the convener.

The committee operated under the Ministry of Public Administration and was directed to provide necessary recommendations.

It was tasked with evaluating applications from incumbent and retired officers who faced promotion-related grievances between 2009 and August 4, 2024.

Chief Adviser Prof Yunus thanked the committee for completing the task and submitting the report before the 90-day deadline.
