5 killed in Comilla road accidents

Sub-Inspector Helal said: "We are preparing the inquest report and arranging to hand over the bodies to their families. The vehicles involved in the accident have been seized"

Five people died in two separate road accidents in Daudkandi, Comilla.

The first incident occurred around 7:30am on Saturday on the Dhaka-Kachua road near Shaistanagar, where two labourers working on a tractor were killed after being hit by a bus.

The second accident happened around 10:30am in Daulatpur area of the same upazila, where three passengers of an autorickshaw, including a child and two women, were killed in a collision with a bus.

Gauripur Investigation Center Police Sub-Inspector Md Helal and Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Eliotganj Highway Police Dewan Kaushik Ahmed confirmed the matters.

According to reports, at 7am, a Dhaka-bound Al-Arafa Paribahan bus collided with a brick-laden tractor near Shaistanagar.

The tractor overturned, killing two brick kiln labourers on the spot.

The deceased were identified as Borhan, 28, son of Gias Uddin of Lakshmipur village of the upazila and Mohammad Ali, 32, son of Syed Ali of Jamalpur Sadar.

Sub-Inspector Helal said: "We are preparing the inquest report and arranging to hand over the bodies to their families. The vehicles involved in the accident have been seized."

In the second incident, a Dhaka-bound Anirban Paribahan bus collided head-on with a CNG-run autorickshaw near Daulatpur bus stand on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway.

Dolly Akhter, 30, one of the passengers, died on the spot.

Other injured passengers and drivers were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where two more victims—Ziana Akhter, 11, and Jahanara Begum, 60, succumbed to their injuries.

All three victims were residents of the neighbouring Basra village.

Highway Police OC Kaushik said: "The autorickshaw was seized. Dolly's body was recovered and was taken to the police station, while the other two died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. The victims' families have expressed intentions to take legal action but no formal complaint has been filed yet. The vehicles involved in the accidents are in police custody."
