BMET smart card to be issued free of charge

The decision aims to reduce migration costs for foreign employment

The Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment has abolished the Tk500 fee for the immigration smart card issued by the Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET) for workers going abroad.

This was announced in a letter signed by Md Hedaietul Islam Mondol, deputy secretary of the Employment Division, on Sunday.

The letter sent by the Ministry to BMET says: "In order to reduce migration costs for foreign employment, the fee for the immigration card (smart card) of Tk250 and the fee for card modification of Tk250, totaling Tk500, has been abolished. The issuance of exit clearance with QR codes will continue without any fee, and the information will be available online. Necessary measures should be taken accordingly."
