Sarjis Alam, general secretary of the July Shaheed Smriti Foundation, said on Saturday that protecting the spirit and dreams of the July-August mass uprising is a collective duty of the people.

“We are dedicating all our efforts to preserving the dreams and spirit for which people shed blood and sacrificed their lives. However, killer Hasina and her accomplices are trying in every possible way to ensure our failure. If we fail, she won’t spare anyone,” he said while speaking at a program held at the Tareq Smriti auditorium in the Mymensingh Town Hall.

During the event, financial assistance was provided to 55 families of martyrs from the mass uprising.

Describing the atrocities of the Awami League government, he said: “There are martyr families who were not allowed to bury their loved ones, live in their homes, or escape harassment. If Hasina returns to power, the same will happen again.”

He urged everyone to work constructively, saying: “We will critically analyze the government’s actions and also assist the administration in fulfilling its duties effectively.”

Sarjis called for justice for those involved in the violent crackdown during the uprising.

“There is sufficient evidence—videos, photos—against those who participated in the killings, regardless of their affiliation, whether they were leaders of Chhatra League, Jubo League, Awami League, or police officers. If anyone hesitates to act against such individuals due to risks, they fail to uphold the spirit of the uprising and should step aside,” he said.
