The Pahariya language has entered digital era as South Asia's youngest language with the launch of its keyboard, officially recognized as the 295th language keyboard
The event was organized jointly by the Rajshahi Divisional Ethnic Cultural Academy and the Pahariya Parishad on Saturday.
Dr Dewan Muhammad Humayun Kabir, divisional commissioner and chairman of the Academy’s Executive Committee, inaugurated the keyboard at a ceremony held at the academy’s auditorium.
The program included a discussion titled “Challenges in Practicing Pahariya Indigenous Language and Solutions.”
Speaking as the chief guest, Dr Kabir highlighted the significance of language in human civilization.
"Language connects humans with nature and technology, enriching knowledge and culture. Today, the Pahariya language has entered the digital era as South Asia's youngest language. This keyboard will help future generations embrace and promote the Pahariya language on a global platform," he said.
Benjamin Tudu, deputy director of the Academy, presided over the program and delivered the welcome speech.
Students and community members shared their enthusiasm for this milestone. Shishir Biswas, a management student at Rajshahi College, said:
"The Pahariya keyboard will enhance communication within the country and internationally. It is a significant step towards keeping the Pahariya language competitive in the digital age."
Sonali and Rajoni Biswas, ninth-grade students at Kasba High School, expressed their excitement.
"We can now write and express our thoughts in our mother tongue, which makes us very happy," they said.
