Update : 17 Nov 2024, 09:43 PM

Kajal Miah, injured in police firing during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in Dhaka's Jatrabari, will be taken to Thailand on Sunday night for advanced medical treatment.

The National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital’s Associate Prof Dr Humayun Kabir Himu said Kajal’s visa had been arranged, adding that an air ambulance funded by the government would transport him.

The air ambulance is scheduled to depart for Vejthani Hospital in Thailand at 11pm.

Dr Sayedur Rahman, special assistant to the chief adviser, will see Kajal off.

On July 5, Kajal suffered severe head injuries after being shot by police.

He was admitted to the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital in Dhaka, where he has been under treatment for the past three months.

Doctors said although Kajal’s condition had improved, he experienced a sudden infection three days ago, leading to multiple episodes of diarrhoea.

His blood pressure had dropped, and he had gone into shock, they added.

On Saturday, his condition worsened, prompting a board meeting of doctors.

At the request of the health advisor, Information Adviser Md Nahid Islam visited the hospital and discussed Kajal’s condition with doctors.

Arrangements for his medical expenses and visa were coordinated with the ministries of foreign affairs and finance.
