The Anti-Discrimination Student Movement has announced a mass rally at Zero Point, Gulistan, demanding justice against the Awami League describing them as "corrupt autocratic party.”
The rally will take place at 12pm at Gulistan Zero Point on Sunday.
Hasnat Abdullah, one of the key coordinators of the movement, made the annoucement on his Facebook page on Saturday.
Earlier, Awami League has called for a demonstration under the banner of "Restoring Democracy in Bangladesh". They have urged their leaders and activists to gather at Zero Point, Gulistan to join a protest march in commemoration of Shaheed Nur Hossain Day.
The party shared multiple posts on its verified Facebook page to call for the rally.
In the lead-up to these events, Asif Mahmud, the Labour and Employment, and Youth and Sports Adviser, made a statement that seemed to target the banned organization, Chhatra League, warning that law enforcement would take strict action against anyone attempting to organize a rally.
In a post on his personal Facebook, Mahmud stated that if members of "the genocidal, banned organization" tried to hold a gathering, the law enforcement agencies would take strong measures against them.
Regarding the situation, Shafiqul Alam, the Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, also made a statement, saying, "Under the directive of genocidal autocrat Sheikh Hasina, if anyone tries to hold a meeting, rally, or procession, the law enforcement agencies will take firm action against them."
