Bobby Hajjaj, chairman of the Nationalist Democratic Movement (NDM), has alleged that the members of the Jatiya Party directly ordered the shooting of students and the public to sustain Sheikh Hasina's fascism.
"The Jatiya Party committed genocide,” he said.
He made these comments as the chief guest at a sit-in program organized by the NDM on Saturday in protest of the Jatiya Party's announcement of a rally at Malibagh.
Hajjaj said: "For the past fifteen and a half years, the Jatiya Party has amassed wealth by colluding with the Awami League. The leaders and activists of the Jatiya Party are not so organized or powerful as to attack students and the public. It is the absconding members of the Jubo League and Chhatra League who have carried out these actions under the protection of the Jatiya Party."
Bobby Hajjaj previously served as a special adviser to the late former Jatiya Party chairman Hussain Muhammad Ershad from 2013 to 2015.
He continued: "The Jatiya Party is guilty of genocide. During the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, I personally called top leaders of the Jatiya Party to ask them to join us in the anti-Hasina movement. However, they instead provided us with blows for being Hasina's henchmen. Their leaders encouraged the police, RAB, and BGB to suppress the movement through shootings."
In his address, NDM General Secretary Mominul Amin said: "The Jatiya Party is now the 'National Jatra Party.' They can be hired for entertainment events if needed.”
