Two Bangladeshi nationals has lost their lives in a fire that engulfed a complex in Pietermaritzburg, Durban, South Africa, on Wednesday night.
The blaze, which destroyed three shops—including two owned by Bangladeshis—left the two men trapped as they slept in one of the shops.
Family members identified the deceased as Delwar Hossain from Mohipal in Feni and Belal Hossain from Alipur in Begumganj, Noakhali.
The fire department arrived at the scene and managed to control the flames, but not before discovering two charred remains. The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The incident has cast a pall of grief over the Bangladeshi community in Durban.
Due to the severe damage to the bodies, arrangements were made by local Bangladeshi expatriates for the men to be buried in South Africa.
