Moazzem Hossain, a central presidium member of the Jubo League, was detained by the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) police on Friday.
He was detained at 2pm from his residence in Moghbazar in the capital.
Since the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, no senior leaders from Nawabganj have been reported detained until now.
Moazzem Hossain is the first central Jubo League leader to be detained.
Moazzem Hossain faces two cases filed under the Explosives Act at Nawabganj police station.
The former advisor to Sheikh Hasina, Salman F Rahman, is named as the main accused in these cases, which were filed on September 2 and September 21.
Nawabganj police station Inspector (Investigation) Asgar Hossain confirmed the detention, sayingthat DB is currently interrogating Moazzem Hossain.
Following the interrogation, he will be formally arrested in connection with the cases filed at Nawabganj police station.
