Recent floods have resulted in a staggering loss of Tk14,269.68 crore, impacting 942,811 individuals across the country.
This information was disclosed by Disaster Management and Relief Adviser Farooq-e-Azam during a meeting of the Flood Rehabilitation Committee held at the Secretariat on Tuesday.
The meeting was attended by the secretary of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, senior officials from relevant ministries, and representatives from NGOs.
Farooq-e-Azam emphasized that the extensive crop damage caused by this year's floods has significantly affected the market for essential goods. To facilitate the quick production of vegetables and other crops, seeds have been distributed to farmers.
The adviser indicated that the assessment of damages was conducted based on data received from various ministries. A rehabilitation program for those affected has already commenced, with central, district, and upazila committees established to oversee the efforts.
He stressed the importance of a coordinated approach to ensure effective rehabilitation of flood-affected individuals.
During the meeting, Azam assured that the extent of the damage would be accurately assessed, and efforts to rehabilitate the affected population would be carried out through collective initiatives.
He also announced that the government has allocated Tk7.34 crore in cash assistance, 38,900 tons of rice, 38,500 packets of dry and other food items, 2,315 bundles of corrugated tin, Tk69.45 lakh for housing assistance, and Tk1.80 crore each for children's food and livestock feed in 19 flood-affected districts.
Additionally, he said that 163 microfinance institutions have distributed Tk85.30 crore to support and assist those impacted by the floods.
