A recent theatrical performance on Friday at the Savar Upazila Parishad Hall brought attention to the daily struggles faced by garment workers, particularly showcasing the life of Julekha, a garment worker living in a small rented room with her disabled child.

The play depicted her lack of access to sanitary toilets and cooking gas, as well as her concerns for her child's safety, education, and health.

Mohammed Elias, a garment worker in the audience, remarked that the challenges portrayed in the play often reflect their own realities, emphasizing that accessing essential services frequently requires extra financial resources.

The performance was part of the “Amio Jitte Chai” campaign, which aims to highlight citizens' expectations and needs. Over a hundred workers from the Savar area attended, where they voiced their housing issues and various demands during the event.

Funded by USAID and initiated by Democracy International, the campaign features a dedicated website, amiojittechai.com, where participants can share their opinions. Workers were encouraged to create video messages calling for solutions to their everyday challenges.

Garment worker Marzia expressed the need for more daycare centers for children and better safety measures to prevent fire accidents in factories.

The “Amio Jitte Chai” campaign aims to engage citizens through theatrical performances and discussions in various districts and campuses, prompting authorities to respond to the expectations of youth and marginalized communities in society.
