Despite Shakib Al Hasan announcing that he will not be returning to the country on Thursday, students have continued their sit-in protest in front of Mirpur Stadium in Dhaka.
They were seen chanting slogans against Shakib. They said they came to submit a memorandum to the BCB president.
The students are also seen holding various placards while protesting at the stadium gate. One placard read: "My brother is in the grave, why is Shakib abroad?" Another read: “Shakib, you may know the pitch in Mirpur, but we grew up knowing the streets.”
Meanwhile, after waiting for half an hour, a five-member delegation entered the stadium.
One of them said: “We have come peacefully to submit a memorandum. We don’t want to see Shakib in Mirpur. He should be in jail. As an associate of the Awami League, he deserves punishment.”
When asked if this protest is damaging the country’s image, they said someone who is an associate (of the Awami League government) has not been punished and is coming to play — that cannot happen.
