The maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted distant cautionary signal number one as the depression over the Southwest Bay and adjoining areas has moved west-northwards.
As of 6am on Wednesday, the depression was centred approximately 1,470km southwest of Chittagong port, 1,420km southwest of Cox’s Bazar port, 1,345km southwest of Mongla port, and 1,350km southwest of Payra port, according to a special bulletin from the Met Office.
The depression is expected to continue moving in a west-northwesterly direction.
The maximum sustained wind speed within 44 km of the depression centre is around 40kph, increasing to 50kph in gusts or squalls.
The sea will remain moderate near the depression centre.
All fishing boats and trawlers over the North Bay and deep sea have been advised to stay close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice.
