Update : 14 Oct 2024, 05:50 PM

Badiul Alam Majumdar, the head of the Election Reform Commission said laws, regulations, and rules are currently being reviewed as part of the electoral reform process.

"We have started reviewing related laws and regulations to gain a clear understanding of electoral reforms. In addition, an email address, Facebook page, and website will be created within a week to gather everyone's written opinions and information,” he said at the Nirbachan Bhaban in Agargaon, Dhaka on Monday.

The commission, consisting of eight members, was formed on October 3. The committee is expected to submit a report along with recommendations to the chief adviser of the interim government within 90 days.

After the third meeting of the reform commission, Badiul Alam Majumdar told journalists: "We have started our work on time. We are currently reviewing laws and regulations to gain a clear understanding and are trying to identify specific areas for reform."

He said that the most significant law is the Representation of the People Order, 1972 (RPO), which is being reviewed thoroughly.

In response to a question, the head of the reform commission said: "The priority is the law regarding the appointment of the commission. When the government wants, we hope to provide them with a draft."

Badiul Alam Majumdar clarified that the reform commission does not have executive powers; it is up to the government to make decisions.

Regarding Monday's meeting, he said, "In today's meeting, we discussed creating a website and what should be included. We will have a Facebook page and an email. We will request information, proposals, and recommendations from everyone. The website will be a subdomain of the Election Commission's website, and it will be ready within a week."
