The Tariqat-affiliated student organization has demanded that army personnel be deployed to shrines and darbars across the country within the next 24 hours.
On Tuesday, in front of the National Press Club, the “Sarbajonin Tariqat Sufi Foundation Bangladesh” and the Tariqat-affiliated student organization held a human chain to protest against the destruction and arson of shrines.
During the event, they made this demand.
Speakers at the human chain said: "You practice your religion, and I will practice mine. Imposing your will on others is tyranny. Attacks are being carried out on the shrine of Shahjalal, and the shrine of Shah Paran. A blueprint for the destruction of shrines is being drawn. We want to say, stop this. If you disturb us, you won’t have time to escape. So, don’t provoke the protectors of the shrines."
Addressing the interim government, they said: "We want to tell the interim government—if you can protect temples and pagodas, what is the problem in protecting shrines?"
At the human chain, the Tariqat-affiliated student organization presented a 10-point demand.
The demands include--arresting and bringing to justice those involved in the destruction of shrines, darbars, and khanqahs, to quickly punishing those who incite vandalism of Tariqat-affiliated shrines and darbars through promoting extremism and terrorism in mosques, ensuring proper medical treatment for Tariqat followers injured in extremist attacks, conducting thorough investigations into each murder resulting from extremist attacks and bring the culprits to justice, implementing stringent security measures for all shrines, darbars, and khanqahs across the country, arresting and bringing to justice individuals who incite religious riots through provocative statements on social media, ensuring the safety of all Tariqat followers to establish freedom truly, deploying army personnel to those darbars and shrines threatened by extremist attacks within the next 24 hours and forming a special security cell for shrines and darbars that have been attacked or are at risk.
Present at the human chain were Zakir Hossain Chishti, Khwaja Benazir Hossain Chishti Nijami, Shah Sufi Kiran Chishti Nijami, Shamsuzzaman Chowdhury Sabuj, Abul Barik Chishti, Benzir Nuri Sureshwari, Arif Dewan, and followers from various shrines and darbars across the country.
