Gazi Tyre factory looted, set ablaze again

This marks the third time the factory has been targeted for looting and arson

Update : 06 Sep 2024, 08:50 PM

Miscreants have once again looted and set fire to the Gazi Tyre factory in Rupganj of Narayanganj.

During the incident, they were seen stealing various machine parts and pieces of iron from the factory on Friday afternoon.

This marks the third time the factory has been targeted for looting and arson.

Around 40 to 50 people entered the factory and began looting iron parts.

Meanwhile, a section of the group set fire to the waste section inside the factory. The fire quickly spread.

Fire Service Assistant Director Fakhruddin Ahmed confirmed the incident, stating that a fire service unit was dispatched in the evening.

However, the identity of those who started the fire remains unknown.

Previously, on August 5, the factory was looted and set on fire following a government change triggered by a student movement.

On August 25, following the arrest of former MP Golam Dastagir Gazi, there was a second incident of looting and arson.

Security guard Hafizur Rahman reported that at around 4:30pm, several people broke through the barbed wire on the factory’s east side and entered the mixing building to steal iron items.

He added that there had been a fire in the same building recently, which resulted in casualties, yet the thieves showed no fear and returned to loot the factory again. “We have detained a few of them,” he said.

On August 25, at around 10:30pm, the factory was set on fire by miscreants.

After 21 hours of efforts, 12 fire service units managed to bring the fire under control.

Around 187 people were reported missing due to the incident. The fire caused the collapse of the 5th and 6th floors of the building, and rescue operations could not be continued.
