2 Chhatra Dal leaders among 3 detained over extortion charge

Police in Sunamganj have detained three individuals, including two Chhatra Dal leaders and a lawyer's assistant, on charges of demanding extortion under the guise of the BNP.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Ahad of Sunamganj Sadar Model police station confirmed the matter on Monday.

According to sources, two Chhatra Dal leaders Saiful Islam Rahi and Mustak Ahmed, along with lawyer's assistant Kabir Hossain, demanded Tk2 lakh in extortion from the Nazir of the District Judge's Court, Mohammad Golam Kibria, on Monday afternoon.

When district BNP General Secretary Nurul Islam Nurul was informed in this regard, he requested the police to take legal action against the extortionists.

Subsequently, the Sadar police detained the three individuals and brought them to the police station.

Nurul Islam Nurul stated: "If anyone demands extortion in the name of the BNP, they will be handed over to the police immediately."

The OC said that the accused demanded Tk2 lakh from the Nazir of the District Judge's Court.

After receiving the complaint, District BNP General Secretary Nurul Islam Nurul handed over the accused to the police.
