Bangladesh Bank has appointed Md Fariduddin Ahmed, a distinguished figure in Islamic banking, as the independent director and chairman of the Board of Directors of Union Bank PLC Farid, with a rich history in Islamic finance, brings a wealth of experience to his new role.
Fariduddin Ahmed began his banking career with Sonali Bank PLC in 1977, following his recruitment by the Bangladesh Bank recruitment committee.
He joined Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC at its inception on March 30, 1983, and has since played a pivotal role in the development of Islamic banking systems and procedures in Bangladesh.
His expertise also extends internationally, he was instrumental in the establishment of Jaiz Bank in Nigeria, nominated by Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC.
In addition to his new role at Union Bank PLC, Farid is actively involved with various Islamic banks and financial institutions as a chairman or member of Shariah Supervisory Committees.
His contributions to the field have been recognized through numerous accolades, including the Central Shariah Board Award for Islamic Banking and the Nawab Sir Salimullah Gold Medal for his exceptional work in promoting Islamic banking in Bangladesh.
Farid has attended numerous training programs, seminars, and conferences worldwide, presenting papers on Islamic banking and finance.
His extensive travels have taken him to countries across Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and beyond, reflecting his global engagement in the field.
