Some 629 people have been victims of forced disappearance from 2007 to 2023, according to a report of Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK).

The human rights organization has called for ensuring justice for those involved in abductions.

The organization has also demanded protection for all citizens from enforced disappearances and the search and identification of the disappeared individuals.

At the same time, The ASK has praised the interim government for signing the Instrument of Accession to the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearances.

In a press release sent to the media on Thursday, ASK reported that 78 of the abducted individuals were found dead.

Besides, 59 were released after the abduction, and 73 were later shown as arrested. The whereabouts of the remaining individuals are still unknown.

On Tuesday, the interim government formed a five-member commission to investigate abductions by law enforcement agencies.

The commission has been asked to submit its report within 45 working days.

The ASK believes that by signing the international convention and forming an investigation commission, the interim government has taken a significant step towards overcoming the culture of impunity and fear created by abductions.

Since the onset of allegations of such inhumane acts, ASK has consistently demanded action both nationally and internationally.

The ASK considers this a positive and groundbreaking step in protecting citizens' human rights.

It also stated that proper measures need to be taken to protect all citizens from enforced disappearances, locate and identify the disappeared, and ensure fair trials for those involved.

Measures should adhere to international standards for handling abduction complaints, ASK added further.
