Hasina sued in 4 cases in Dhaka

  • Three murder cases and an attempted murder case filed 
  • 136 others accused in four cases

Four more separate cases have been filed against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina over the deaths and attempted murder during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

Besides, 136 others including former ministers, MPs, and Awami League leaders were made accused in the case. 

On Wednesday, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain directed the acceptance of the complaints related to two of these cases as formal charges at Khilgaon police station over two deaths in the Banasree area. 

Another complaint was directed to be accepted as a formal charge by Senior Judicial Magistrate Mostafizur Rahman at Ashulia police station.

Sheikh Hasina has been named the primary accused in the cases. 

Besides, an attempted murder complaint was filed. 

The court directed the Mughda police station to accept the complaint as a formal charge.

Hasina among 31 sued

During the anti-discrimination student movement, a grocery shop owner, Mizanur Rahman, was shot and killed in the Banasree area of Dhaka.

The father of the deceased, Kamal Hossain, filed a case with Khilgaon police station against Sheikh Hasina, her sister Sheikh Rehana, her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, her daughter Saima Wazed Putul, and 31 others.

Other accused in the case include Obaidul Quader, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Zunaid Ahmed Palak, Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, Hasanul Haq Inu, Rashed Khan Menon, Amir Hossain Amu, Barrister Sayedul Haque Sumon, DG of BGB, Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, Habibur Rahman, DG of RAB, Syed Nurul Islam, Harunor Rashid, Bipul Kumar Sarker, Saddam Hossain, and Barrister Sajjad Hossain.

The complaint states that on July 19, around 3pm, during the anti-discrimination student movement in Banasree, Mizanur Rahman was shot in the leg. He was later taken to the Pangu Hospital but died at around 5:40pm due to excessive bleeding.

27 including Hasina accused

Another case has been filed with Khilgaon police station against 27 individuals including Sheikh Hasina in connection with the death of 14-year-old Ashikul Islam during the student movement.

The victim’s mother Arisha Afruz filed the case.

Notable accused include Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Abdullah Al Mamun, Harunor Rashid, and Bipul Biswas.

Ashikul was shot dead in Banasree on July 19.

University student murder

Sheikh Hasina and 21 others were charged on Wednesday over the killing of City University student Md Sazzad Hossain Sajal and torching his body during the recent anti-discrimination student movement.

Sajal's elder brother, Mijanur Rahman, filed the complaint with Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate Mostafizur Rahman's court, which recorded it and Ashulia police station to file it as first information report (FIR).

The other prominent accused in the case are Obaidul Quader, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Abdullah Al Mamun, Harunor Rashid, Biplab Kumar and Habibur Rahman.

According to the case documents, hundreds of students marched in the Baipail area on August 5 in support of the anti-discrimination movement.

Police with the aim to quell the movement, fired on the procession and detained many students.

Sajal was arrested from the rally and later killed by gunshot inside the police station, the case dossier said.

It added that to get rid of all the evidence of their crimes, police put Sajal's body alongside the bodies of 7/8 more students into a laguna and set it on fire by pouring petrol on it.

Attempted murder of lawyer

Additionally, a case has been filed against 59 individuals, including Sheikh Hasina, actor Ferdous Ahmed, and Nazmul Hassan Papon, for the attempted murder of lawyer Abdul Bashed Shamim.

On Wednesday, Abdul Bashed Shamim filed the complaint at the court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain.

The court directed the Mughda police station to accept the complaint as a formal charge.

Notable accused in this case include: Obaidul Quader, Sheikh Selim, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Mahbubul Alam Hanif, Hasan Mahmud, Nazmul Hassan Papon, AFM Bahaluddin Nasim, Dipu Moni, Bipul Barua, Abdus Sobhan Golap, Mohammad Ali Arafat, Zunaid Ahmed Palak, Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash, Mainul Hossain Khan Nikhil, actor Ferdous Ahmed, Barrister Sayedul Haque Sumon and Kazi Salahuddin.

The complaint alleges that on July 18, while Abdul Bashed Shamim was returning home after court proceedings, law enforcement, Awami League, and its affiliated organizations fired upon the protesters in Maniknagar.

Abdul Bashed Shamim sustained bullet wounds from gunfire during this incident.
