Update : 26 Aug 2024, 07:55 PM

The transgender community has donated Tk41,000 to aid flood victims across the affected areas.

The donations were made to the relief collection desks at Jagannath University (JnU) and the Band Music Association.

They said that the funds were collected from Kotwali, Bangshal, and Lalbagh police stations.

Speaking on behalf of the community, Lajuk said: “We make a living through the support of others. If we do not stand by them in times of need, we would feel guilty. In this time of crisis, I urge everyone to support the flood victims.”

Rezaul Islam, a volunteer at the JnU relief desk, said: "They contributed Tk31,050 to our booth. Overcoming this crisis requires everyone's cooperation. Working together demonstrates our love for our country.”

Takrim Ahmed of the Band Music Association added that their gesture showed that Bangladesh truly belongs to everyone.

“They generously gave over Tk10,000 at our booth. People are coming from all walks of life. They will attend the concert, and though we offered them tickets, they chose not to take them. The concert will be open to all.”

The death toll from the ongoing floods in 11 districts of Bangladesh has risen to 23, with more than 5.5 million people affected by the flooding.

This information was obtained from the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief's latest flood situation report, which was updated until 11am on Monday.

The ministry said the flood situation is improving, with water levels in all rivers starting to recede.
