Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) President Hasanul Haq Inu from Uttara in the capital.
DB's Gulshan Division Deputy Commissioner Quazi Zia Uddin confirmed the matter on Monday.
He said there were several cases against Inu. He may be shown arrested in any of the cases.
Hasanul Haq Inu's JSD was part of the Awami League-led 14-party alliance.
In the 12th parliamentary election, he contested from Kushtia-2 constituency on behalf of the alliance but lost.
