The flood situation in five districts – Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Feni, Comilla, and Chittagong – of the country has begun to improve.
The information was provided in the latest bulletin issued by the Flood Forecasting and Warning Center (FFWC) on Saturday.
According to the bulletin, rainfall has decreased in border regions of Comilla, Brahmanbaria, and Feni districts, as well as in the Indian state of Tripura over the past 24 hours. As a result, the flood situation has improved.
However, water levels at nine stations along six rivers in these areas are still flowing above the danger mark.
Water levels at five other stations along these rivers have now dropped below the danger level.
Saturday’s bulletin also mentioned that there has been no significant rainfall in the eastern regions of Comilla, Brahmanbaria, and Feni districts along the Tripura border and within the Tripura basin over the last 24 hours.
The water levels in the upstream rivers are receding.
As a result, the flood situation in the low-lying areas of Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Feni, Comilla, and Chittagong districts has been improving since Friday.
In the next 24 hours, the flood situation in the low-lying areas near the Manu, Khowai, Dhalai, Muhuri, Feni, Gumti, and Halda rivers may continue to improve, according to FFWC.
However, Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) on Saturday predicted moderate to heavy rains in three divisions – Khulna, Barisal, and Chittagong – of the country.
“Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at many places over Khulna, Barisal and Chittagong divisions and at a few places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions with moderately heavy to heavy falls at places over Khulna, Barisal and Chittagong divisions,” said a Met office bulletin.
There may also be moderately heavy to heavy rain in some parts of the Khulna, Barishal, and Chittagong divisions.
Pabna’s Ishwardi recorded the most rain in the 24 hours to 6am on Saturday with 61 mm. Patuakhali’s Khepupara recorded 42 mm, Cox’s Bazar’s Teknaf 41 mm, Barisal 27 mm and Bhola 23 mm. Other parts of the country also saw some rain.
Usually, 1-10 mm of rainfall in 24 hours is considered light rain, 11-22 mm is moderate rain, 23-43 mm is moderately heavy, 44-88 mm is heavy rain and more than 88 mm is considered very heavy rainfall.
