A case has been filed against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 66 others, accusing them of the murder of Abdullah Kabir Khan, senior vice president of the BNP's Ward 11 in Dhaka North.
The incident occurred during the anti-discrimination student movement in the Mirpur-10 area of the capital, where Abdullah Kabir was shot.
On Monday, Abdullah Kabir’s wife, Afsana Akhter filed the case in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehedi Hasan.
The court recorded the plaintiff's statement and instructed the Mirpur Model police station to accept the complaint as a First Information Report (FIR).
Former road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader and home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal were accused as well.
The complaint stated that on August 4, between 1:30pm and 3pm, Abdullah Kabir went to help the students and the public during the anti-discrimination movement at Mirpur-10 Circle in front of Ideal School.
Following Sheikh Hasina's instructions, police, RAB, Awami League, Jubo League, and Chhatra League allegedly opened fire indiscriminately.
Abdullah Kabir was shot while trying to assist a student who had been injured.
He was initially taken to Max Hospital in Mirpur-14 and then transferred to Kurmitola Hospital.
However, due to the large number of casualties and delays in treatment, he suffered excessive blood loss, and the attending doctor later pronounced him dead.
