The All-European Awami League has rejected the cases filed against Awami League President and former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and termed the cases as unfounded.
In a joint statement from
M Nazrul Islam and Mojibur Rahman, the president and general secretary of the European Awami League, respectively, issued a joint statement in this regard on Monday.
“False accusations are persistently being directed against Sheikh Hasina, who has been guiding Bangladesh toward prosperity following her father’s principles. The oppressive forces currently in power are using their allies to bring these false lawsuits,” according to the statement.
The EU Awami League posted the statement on its verified Facebook page on Monday.
The statement continued: “While Sheikh Hasina was leading Bangladesh towards development, extremist groups supported by Pakistan, such as Jamaat-e-Islami, Shibir, and BNP, were perpetrating violence across the nation...”
Additionally, the statement condemned the burning of the historic 32 Dhanmondi residence of Bangabandhu, a site of significant historical importance.
The European Awami League has demanded the immediate dismissal of all false charges against Sheikh Hasina and other leaders, and called for an end to what they describe as the persecution and killing of minorities and Awami League activists.
Till Monday, at least 17 cases have been filed against Sheikh Hasina. Of them, 16 are murder cases and one kidnapping case.
Several dozens of cases are being filed against the former cabinet member of Sheikh Hasina, Awami League former lawmaker and the leaders of Awami League across the country after Sheikh Hasina fled to India on August 5 following massive student protests in Bangladesh.
