The government has cancelled the contractual appointment of journalist Shaban Mahmud as the press minister of the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi.
The decision came in a notification issued by the Public Administration Ministry on Tuesday with immediate effect.
Shaban Mahmud was appointed to the post for two years on November 16, 2020. He got an extension on November 2, 2022.
On August 10, his name appeared on the list of 51 pro-Awami League journalists prepared by the Students Against Discrimination, demanding a ban on them for inciting violence against the protesters and working against the state and national interests.
The students submitted the list to the acting president and general secretary of the National Press Club.
