Update : 12 Aug 2024, 06:40 PM

The newly appointed Religious Affairs Adviser, AFM Khalid Hossain, announced significant reforms in the country’s religious affairs during a press briefing at the secretariat on Monday.

Key among these changes is the decision to include individuals with scientific expertise in the national moon sighting committee, aimed at enhancing the accuracy and reliability of the committee’s decisions.

Addressing recent issues related to Hajj operations, Adviser Khalid confirmed the cancellation of licenses for 50 organizations found guilty of irregularities during this year’s Hajj.

The inclusion of additional airlines in Hajj transportation beyond the existing three to ensure better services for pilgrims is being considered.

The Religious Adviser also condemned recent attacks on houses of worship belonging to minority communities, assuring that the ministry would stand in solidarity with the affected communities.

“Those responsible for these attacks will be strictly punished under the law,” Hossain said, adding that a dedicated hotline will soon be launched to report such incidents, ensuring swift action.
