Update : 08 Aug 2024, 12:30 PM

Former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and her team, who fled to India on Monday amidst a violent uprising against her Awami League government, could not carry extra clothes or daily necessities, government sources told India Today TV.

According to sources, Sheikh Hasina was given only 45 minutes by the Bangladesh Army to leave the country.

She flew with her sister Sheikh Rehana and her close aides in a military transport jet landing at Hindon Airbase near Delhi.

The team accompanying Sheikh Hasina was in total distress, having left Bangladesh in a hurry to escape mobs that had even entered the prime minister's residence, sources informed India Today TV.

Members of the protocol office deployed with the Bangladeshi entourage assisted them in purchasing clothes and daily use items.

Even after 48 hours in India, Sheikh Hasina and her team are staying at a safe house near the airbase.

Sources indicated that India has granted Sheikh Hasina refuge until she secures asylum in another country.

Indian security personnel and protocol officers are providing support to the entourage to help them overcome the stress and shock.

National Security Advisor Ajit Doval was the first on the ground to meet Sheikh Hasina and her entourage. The two sides have discussed the current situation and future plans for the ousted prime minister.
