The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has withdrawn traffic police officers from several police boxes across Dhaka to ensure safety.
Md Munibur Rahman, the additional police commissioner of DMP, confirmed the matter on Saturday.
He said that traffic police are being redeployed in certain areas, taking into account the overall situation.
Protesters from various parts of the capital are converging towards Shaheed Minar to join a scheduled protest at 3pm.
Earlier, the protest at the Science Lab area had started at 12:30pm on Saturday.
Around 2:30pm, protesting students lifted the blockade after a two-hour demonstration. Then they formed a procession and headed towards the Shaheed Minar.
