Govt cancels Prottoy pension scheme

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina approved the summary of the withdrawal

Update : 03 Aug 2024, 03:48 PM

The government has announced the withdrawal of the Prottoy pension scheme for universities, autonomous institutions and government institutions.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina approved the summary of the withdrawal.

The information was confirmed in a notification issued by the Ministry of Finance on Saturday.

National Pension Authority member Md Golam Mostofa told the media: “At the moment, the Prottoy scheme has been cancelled."

He refused to give any more information.

Since July 1, teachers from 39 public universities have been on strike, halting classes and exams in response to the federation’s call for action.

Earlier, despite a 15-day sit-in, the teachers' demands were not met.

The situation escalated with the quota reform movement on July 15, leading to university closures and a temporary pause in the teachers' on-ground activities.
