After ten days of suspension due to the violent quota reform movement, mobile internet service resumed across the country from 3pm on Sunday.
However, many customers were unable to access mobile internet on Monday afternoon. This led to rumors that mobile internet had been shut down again.
However, Mohammad Mohiuddin Ahmed, chairman of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), stated that mobile internet had not been shut down.
He said: "Everyone has internet. Why would we shut it down? The minister has already informed that the internet is working fine."
Regarding this issue, Internet Service Providers Association of Bangladesh President (ISPAB) Imdadul Haque said: "Mobile internet is active. However, the speed is very slow."
When asked about the reason, he said: "After the ten-day suspension, Google’s cache service, which includes Google-related services like Gmail, YouTube, etc, was shut down. These servers require bandwidth to update, which put pressure on our main international bandwidth."
He continued: "Many people are using VPNs to access Facebook and YouTube. This has also put a significant strain on our international bandwidth, resulting in slow mobile internet speeds in many areas. This issue will be resolved very soon. Normally, it takes 24 to 48 hours for these servers to update."
