The chief of the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Harunor Rashid said the BNP hired Tokai (teenagers living on the streets) to kill police and activists of the Chhatra League in exchange for money during the recent nationwide unrest.
He said that Noor-e-Alam Siddiqui Piton, a Jubo Dal leader from Bogra, received instructions from London, offering Tk10,000 for killing police personnel and Tk5,000 for killing Chhatra League members.
The DMP chief said this at a press conference held at the DB office in the capital’s Minto Road on Thursday.
He further revealed that after the announcement, Piton’s brother-in-law, Md Abdul Aziz alias Sultan, was sent to recruit Tokai from various areas for the task. These individuals later vandalized and set fire to several important establishments in the capital.
He said their target was to break the morale of the police so that the conspiracy of the Jamaat-Shibir and BNP would be successful. With that mentality, they also attacked the police on October 28 last year.
At that time, a policeman was beaten to death. The police hospital and the chief justice's residence were vandalized.
