13 Bangladeshis return home from after serving jail in India

  • Serving jail from 18-24 months
  • Indian police arrested them after they entered the country illegally

Thirteen Bangladeshis including women and children, who were trafficked to India, returned home on Sunday night through Jessore’s Benapole check post after serving jail there.

The returnees hail from Bagerhat, Khulna, Narail, Khagrachhari and Pirojpur districts.

Azharul Islam, officer-in-charge of Benapole Checkpost Police Immigration, said Indian police arrested them after they entered the country illegally.

Later, they were sent to jail through courts, he said.

An Indian NGO sheltered them when they walked out of the prison after serving jail from 18 months to 24 months, the OC said adding that Indian Patropole Immigration Police handed them over on Sunday night.

Bangladeshi NGO "Justice and Care" handed over the returnees to their respective families after receiving them from the local police station.
