Update : 15 Jun 2024, 03:33 PM

The overcrowded Ekota Express bound for Panchagarh departed from Dhaka's Kamalapur Railway Station on Saturday at 10:16am, entering through the train doors was like a battle. Many passengers bypassed this struggle by entering through the windows. Ultimately, the train left the station with passengers hanging on the doors.

This scene of Eid journey was observed at Dhaka Railway Station on Saturday. Eid holidaymakers were seen hanging on the doors, heading towards their destinations.

A passenger on the Ekota Express, Al Amin, said: “I am lucky to get a seat, many are standing. Everyone was waiting to go home, so whether standing or sitting, getting home is what's important to them."

Another passenger, Anwar Hossain, said: "I bought a standing ticket, so I have to travel standing. The main thing is in this huge crowd finding a place to stand is enough."

The Ekota Express (705) bound for Panchagarh departed Dhaka Station at its scheduled time of 10:15am without any delay.

Dhaka Railway Station Manager Mohammad Masud Sarwar said: "All trains from Dhaka Station have departed on schedule since morning without any delays."

In consideration of passenger demand for Eid-ul-Azha, Bangladesh Railway has added an additional 162 passenger coaches.

Tickets for these coaches can be purchased online 12 hours before the train's departure.

Additionally, 25% of the seats on other trains are being sold as standing tickets at the station just before departure.

Starting from Wednesday, 10 pairs of Eid special trains have also started operating, running on different days of the Eid journey.
