When are different varieties of mangoes being harvested?

  • Naogaon DAE office set dates for mango harvesting
  • Dates for Chapainawabganj not announced yet
Update : 28 May 2024, 04:20 PM

The Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) has fixed the harvesting dates for mangoes in various locations across Bangladesh.

The department's "Exportable Mango Production Project" provided a schedule for harvesting mangoes. These dates were determined during a meeting on March 20.

The DAE offices in Naogaon have already set dates for mango harvesting.

However, the dates for mango harvesting in Chapainawabganj have not yet been announced, although officials said they will announce them soon.

Exportable Mango Production Project Director Mohammad Arifur Rahmann emphasized the importance of not harvesting the mangoes prematurely as they are still growing. Proper care and necessary irrigation at this stage will increase the size and weight of the mangoes, potentially offsetting overall production deficits even if the number of mangoes is fewer.

According to sources at the DAE’s Plant Quarantine Wing, a review of mango harvesting data from various parts of the country showed that out of 29 mango varieties, 10 are exported. The variation in ripening times of mangoes is due to differences in temperature.

The Naogaon office of the DAE published a schedule for mango harvesting, specifying the following dates: indigenous on May 22, Gopalbhog on May 30, Kheersapat/Himsagar on June 2, Nak Fazli on June 5, Haribhanga/Langra on June 10, Fazli on June 25, Amrapali on June 20, and Ashwina/Gaur Moti/Katimon/BARI-4 on July 10.

This schedule is primarily for Naogaon, a separate list has been prepared for Satkhira.
