Members of the Fire Service repaired an acid leakage that was reported at a factory of Incepta Pharmaceuticals in Dhaka’s Dhamrai on Thursday night.
The leakage was reported around 9pm, Fire Service sources said. Five firefighting units, including a chemical tender unit, were working at the scene.
The leakage occurred when a drum carrying nitric acid fell, creating intense smoke. “There is no fire,” Dhamrai Fire Service Station Officer Sohel Rana said.
Smoke brewing from the facility created panic among the locals.
Members from the Dhamrai police station were deployed at the scene.
An official of the factory, Faizur Rashid, said: “A drum of acid fell on the floor in the bio-chemical section and created smoke. Police and the Fire Service members came and brought it under control.”
