Death toll rises to 4 in Savar oil-laden lorry accident

  • Sakib receives 100% burn injuries
  • Six injured undergoing treatment at Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute

The death toll from the fire incident following the overturning of an oil-laden lorry in Savar has reached four following the death of another injured at Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute in Dhaka.

The injured truck helper Md Sakib, 15, son of Md Abed Ali of Barguna Sadar upazila, succumbed to his injuries at 1:20am on Wednesday.

Resident Surgeon of the institute Dr Md Tariqul Islam confirmed the matter.

Sakib received 100% burn injuries, said the physician.

Earlier, two people were killed and eight others were injured when five vehicles caught on fire after an oil-laden lorry overturned in Savar on Tuesday.

The incident took place in the Jorpul area in Hemayetpur.

On information, three units of fire service rushed to the spot and doused the blaze

The deceased were identified as Iqbal and Nazrul Islam.

Among the eight injured, Helal died at night.

The six other injured following Sakib’s death are- Milon Molla, 22, Mim, 10, Al-Amin 35, Nironjon, 45, Abdus Salam, 35, Md Al Amin, 22.

Six of them are undergoing treatment at Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute in Dhaka.

Savar Highway police station Officer-in-Charge Md Babul said four trucks and a private car were burnt when an oil-laden lorry overturned and caught fire.

Vehicular movement on the Dhaka-Aricha highway came to a standstill after the incident.
