Update : 19 Mar 2024, 10:14 PM

The government has decided to form a high-power committee to formulate guidelines for the restaurant industry.

The committee will comprise members from different government bodies.

Imran Hossain, secretary general of the Bangladesh Restaurant Owners Association, yesterday said the committee will come up with a course of action for the restaurant industry in the next six months.

He made the remarks as the association suspended its scheduled human chain program across the country yesterday after holding a meeting with Prime Minister's Private Industry and Investment Adviser Salman F Rahman at the PMO.

The meeting was called to resolve issues that arose following the deaths of dozens of people in a recent fire incident at a commercial building on the capital’s Bailey Road that housed several restaurants illegally.

Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Atiqul Islam, Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) President Mahbubul Alam, Osman Gani, president of the Bangladesh Restaurant Owners Association, and other top leaders of the body were present at the meeting as well.
