DGHS shuts two hospitals in Dhaka

  • Diagnostic lab of another hospital closed 
  • Raided 37 facilities on first day

The Director General of Health Services (DGHS) has shut down two private hospitals in Dhaka on account of irregularities.

The two hospitals are Hicare Cardiac and Neuro Hospital in Uttara, and Care Hospital and Diagnostic in Mohammadpur’s Iqbal road. 

Besides, the diagnostic lab of Dhaka Trauma Centre and Specialized Hospital in the Shyamoli area has been closed.

DGHS Director (hospital and clinic) Dr Abu Hossain Mainul Ahsan confirmed the matter in a press release on Wednesday.

According to the health minister's order, the DGHS is inspecting the health institutions to shut down the unlicensed, illegal private hospitals, clinics, diagnostic centres, and blood banks on an urgent basis.

On the second day of the inspection drive, DGHS officials raided 10 healthcare facilities in the capital.

During the inspection, Hi-care Orthopaedics and General Hospital in Shyamoli was ordered to show cause for various irregularities.

Islam Diagnostic Center in the same area was also warned about keeping incorrect colour-coded bins.

On Tuesday, the first day of the drive, the health directorate raided 37 hospitals and diagnostic centres across the country.
