The Election Commission (EC) has issued a gazette notification containing the names and addresses of 50 women reserved seat MPs in the 12th National Parliament.

According to the notification issued on Tuesday, the commission said it had published the list of the reserved seat MPs as per the provisions of the relevant law.

Two MPs are from the Jatiya Party, while 48 are from the Awami League and its allies.

According to the election schedule announced by the Election Commission, voting in the reserved seats was slated for March 14.

Returning Officer Moniruzzaman Talukder, in charge of the reserved women's seat, said the deadline for withdrawal of nominations was Sunday at 4pm. Since none of the candidates withdrew their nomination papers, there are provisions under Section 12 of the Election Act to declare the candidates elected unopposed.

According to the existing law, parliamentary seats reserved for women are distributed to parties in proportion to the seats they obtained in the general elections.

The ruling Awami League has nominated candidates for 48 reserved women's seats with the support of alliance partners and independent candidates. Opposition Jatiya Party has nominated 2 seats.
