Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam is leading the clean-up campaign and evicting illegal occupants of the Lautala and Ramchandrapur canals in Mohammadpur.
Along with over 1,500 workers of the voluntary organization BD Clean, the mayor, wearing gloves, got into the Lautala canal and started cleaning.
At the time, Mayor Atiqul Islam said, that those who throw garbage in the canal, have garbage in their brains.
Earlier, DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam administered the oath to more than 1,500 volunteers of BD Clean at Bosila Police Line ground.
One part of the oath says: "I will not throw garbage anywhere. I will make others aware.”
