Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that the accomplishments of Bangladesh and its people are the result of the efforts made by the Awami League.
Speaking at a discussion meeting organized by Awami League on Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day on Thursday, Prime Minister Hasina paid tribute to the language martyrs.
She credited Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Rahman for giving Bangladesh its identity on the world stage and highlighted that the ability to speak their mother tongue and the status as an independent nation were contributions from him.
Prime Minister Hasina recounted the struggles for democratic rights, referencing a 1947 education conference in Karachi where Urdu was proposed as the state language.
She noted the protests by Dhaka University students against this decision.
She criticized attempts to distort history and undermine Bangabandhu's contributions, adding that the people of Bangladesh do not accept such efforts.
She also reminded that Khaleda Zia came to power through vote manipulation and lost power due to popular movements.
Highlighting the neutral elections in Bangladesh on January 7, Prime Minister Hasina said: “The country is moving forward with a spirit of not bowing down.”
She addressed concerns about potential agitation and revolution from certain parties, adding that Bangladesh has been taught not to bow down and is progressing with its ideals.
Prime Minister Hasina concluded by affirming that Bangladesh, inspired by millions of martyrs, will continue moving forward and cannot be pulled back.
