State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury on Saturday said that the Awami League government did not sign any agreement to sell the country to anyone.
“The people have firm confidence on the digital system introduced by the government. We will build a smart and developed Bangladesh by 2041,” he said this while handing over two fixed container scanners installed at gate number-4 of country’s main seaport in the Chittagong.
Terming the installation of scanners as a great achievement, the State Minister said many problems of last several years have been solved during last three-four years.
The businessmen of the country are coming out from the thought of profit within a limited time.
“Once Matarbari deep sea port comes into operation, we will move to a different height in the maritime sector. Vessels of the 12-metre draft will arrive at the Bay Terminal. Business will increase here day by day,” he added.
The state minister said that the worthy daughter of Bangabandhu Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had instructed the NBR to install scanners at all the ports in 2019.
“A good number of scanners have already been installed according to the instructions. In the maritime sector, we are considered as category C. Denmark wants to invest in Paira Sea Port. Saudi Arabia wants to invest more. They are planning to invest in Bangladesh as a safe place,” he added.
Port Chairman Rear Admiral Mohammad Sohail presided over the function while Senior Secretary to the Ministry of Shipping Mustafa Kamal addressed it as a special guest.
Naval Area Commander Chittagong Rear Admiral Azim, Project Director Lt Colonel Mustafa Arifur Rahman Khan, Custom Commissioner Faizur Rahman, Zilla Parishad Chairman ATM Piarul Islam, Metropolitan Chamber President Khalilur Rahman, Port Secretary Md Omar Faruk, its executive Ryan Zahid Rahman and Naibur Rahman Fatik among others attended the function.
Port sources said the scanners equipped with radioactive portal monitor of FS 6000 model installed at a cost of Tk85, 89,000,0.00 from port's own sources.
The scanner can scan 150 containers per hour, the source added.
