The Directorate of National Consumers’ Right Protection has launched an investigation into the production of fake diabetes measuring strips produced by “Pharma Solutions”.

These fake strip packets, mimicking those of a reputable foreign multinational company, are reportedly made by a company named “Print One” in the capital’s Naya Paltan area.

AHM Shafiquzzaman, director general of the Directorate of National Consumers’ Right Protection, on Sunday, said they are probing if any other organization is involved in the incident.

He said they have sought information from the companies about how many unauthorized diabetes strips were being marketed in Bangladesh.

Assistant Director of the directorate's Dhaka office Md Abdul Jabbar Mondol, said that on February 6, the head office of the company named Pharma Solution was raided.

The company informed the monitoring team that the strips of that batch were not of their organization. Later, during a visit to the Kakrail branch of Lazz Pharma, it was found that the described batch of strips was purchased by the company from Pharma Solutions.

The batch number of the fake diabetes strip was e-mailed to its manufacturer Roche (a renowned German pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturing company) and it was learned that no strip of that batch was produced in their organization.

Later, at a hearing held at the directorate on February 8, the accused company said that they made these fake diabetes strips by “Print One” company in Naya Paltan.

Based on the information received, a fine was imposed and both the companies were later sealed off.
