Ansar-VDP to hold 44th National Assembly

  • Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to be present at the event as the chief guest

The Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP) will hold its 44th National Assembly amid festivity and celebrate its 76th founding anniversary on Monday. 

To mark the day, a parade is being organized at Bangladesh Ansar and VDP Academy in Safipur of Gazipur. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to be present at the event as the chief guest.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, Senior Secretary Md Mostafizur Rahman, among others, will be present at the event as well. 

Besides, cabinet members and members of the parliament, chiefs of the three armed forces will also be present.

The Ansar and VDP was formed as the "East Pakistan Ansars" in line with the East Pakistan Ansars Act of 1948, and officially launched on February 12, 1948. 

Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defense Forces have a total of 42 battalions including two full female Ansar battalions and an Ansar Guard Battalion (AGB) consisting of specially trained personnel.

The members of 16 battalions in the hilly regions are doing joint and single camps in 'Operation Uttaran' to protect the integrity of the country, protect the harmony in the hilly region and suppress terrorism. 19 members have sacrificed their lives at various times while fulfilling this duty. 

The members of Ansar battalion in the plains are carrying out their duties at various important establishments including government offices, Rooppur nuclear power plant, Padma multi-purpose bridge project, metro rail, Payra port, airports, and are also serving the RAB, NSI and DGFI.

Members of the specially trained Ansar Guard Battalion (AGB) are responsible for the security of diplomatic zones and foreign embassies. 

Currently, about 55,000 members of Ansar are responsible for the security of more than 5,000 important institutions including airports, seaports, EPZs.
