The National Parliament on Monday formed sixteen parliamentary standing committees on different ministries.
Chief Whip of the Parliament Noor-E-Alam Chowdhury on behalf of the Leader of the House and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina proposed the construction.
All these sixteen standing committees would be led by ruling Awami League lawmakers, while MPs from the main opposition were included in the committees as members.
Later, the proposals were adopted by voice votes with Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.
The standing committees are - parliamentary body on education ministry headed by Nurul Islam Nahid, MP, of Sylhet-6, parliamentary body on religious affairs headed by independent lawmaker Husamuddin Chowdhury of Sylhet-5, parliamentary body on youth and sports headed by Zahid Ahsan Rasell, MP, of Gazipur-2, parliamentary body on cultural affairs headed by Asaduzzaman Noor, MP, of Nilphamari-2, parliamentary body on health headed by Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, MP, of Gopalganj-2,
Parliamentary body on women and children affairs headed by Begum Sagupta Yasmin, MP, of Munshiganj-2, parliamentary body on liberation war affairs headed by Rafiqul Islam, MP, of Chandpur-5, parliamentary body on labour and employment headed by HM Ibrahim, MP, of Noakhali-1, parliamentary body on commerce headed by Tipu Munshi, MP, of Rangpur-2, parliamentary body on fisheries and livestock headed by SM Rezaul Karim, MP, of Pirojpur-1,
Parliamentary body on agriculture headed by Dr M Abdur Razzaque, MP, of Tangail-1, parliamentary body on library headed by Shamsul Huq Tuku, MP, of Pabna-1 and parliamentary body on environment, forest and climate change headed by ASM Feroz, MP, of Patuakhali-2.
Besides, the parliament also formed its petition committee with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury as its chair.
